One of the reasons I am writing down these thoughts is so that people that have more information than I can correct me when I am wrong. Hopefully I will then learn.
Two things: First, there seems to be a need for national software vending laws such that it should be illegal for a software vendor to disable a bit of software or even to leave a timebomb in it which only they can reset. Second, this entire problem would go away with Open Source licenses of one sort or another.
